1. Pre-Vedic period (1500 to 1000 BC) and Post-Vedic period (1000 to 800 BC).


Based on the manuscripts found so far, the Rig Veda is considered to be pre-Vedic. While the rest of the other Vedas, Samhitas, Brahmans, Aranyakas as well as Upanishads are considered to be post-Vedic period.
